Degree in Biological Sciences and Medicine, PhD in Preventive Medicine, Paola Borella is full Professor of Hygiene, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Italy), Department of Biomedical, Metabolic and Neural Sciences, Section of Public Health. She is author and co-author of 212 papers in the field of epidemiology and public health with special reference to the relationship between environmental risks and health. Since 2000, Prof. Borella’s major interest is in the environmental protection and public health aspects of Legionnaires' disease. Research in these areas includes the study of Legionella pneumophila and other waterborne bacterial pathogens in building water distribution systems, biofilm formation, validation of rapid identification techniques, testing efficacy and susceptibility to new disinfection methods.
