Maria Cristina Rota is a senior researcher at the National Institute of Health in Italy.  She is a medical epidemiologist with extensive experience in Legionella surveillance and control. She is in charge of the National Legionnaires’ disease Registry and is the Italian epidemiological contact point for Travel Associated Legionnaires’ Disease Surveillance Network (ELDSnet)of the ECDC. She has been involved in several LD outbreak investigations in Italy and is member of the multidisciplinary group of experts in charge of preparing and reviewing the Italian Guidelines for Legionella prevention and control.
